The Project of Developing Real-time Online Water Quality Sensing Technology in FY112

For enhancing and continuing applications of water IoT project with the Ministry of Environment (MOENV), the project team reviewed previous R&D accomplishments and focused on improving the deficiencies in sensor, expanding the application areas, conducting diverse field verifications, and exploring commercialization opportunities this year. The main purpose of this project is concentrated on four areas: (1) Analyzing global trends in environmental IoT and water sensing components including collect international cases of water IoT in various contexts; compare water quality and water quantity sensing methods with mature technologies; propose applicable sensing technologies and equipment for different fields; and suggest R&D application directions. (2) Optimizing water quality sensors and components as achieve automatic calibration functions for optical sensing equipment; design micrometer-level pre-processing and electrode auto-cleaning devices; expand fixed equipment sensing components; and develop small residual chlorine sensors. Completed assignments including verification in actual field settings or real water samples. (3) Boosting watershed management and civilian applications: In the law enforcement technology, resolve three inspection complaints, resulting 3.04 million units in total fine. In water quality modeling, estimates the carrying capacity of the Nan-Kan river's upstream and midstream, analyze pollution situations and establish pollution reduction plans. In sewage plant energy-saving strategies, employ sensors for sensing in sewage treatment plant procedures, analyze energy-saving and carbon reduction control strategies. (4) Project results dissemination: six papers published in Journal or conferences and one Chinese patent application filed. The project team continues to promote expansion through R&D optimization, data analysis, and diverse applications to gradually increasing the project's influence. Through concerted efforts from central to local levels, bridging environmental and industrial sectors, integrating water IoT into daily life, enhancing water quality data transparency, using technology to improve environmental quality, and let public feel the impact.
